Migration of WhatsApp Business Account to Shared Access
Starting October 1, Meta will begin migrating WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) that were onboarded through Manual onboarding (On-Behalf-Of model) to the Shared Access model. This transition will transfer WABA ownership from Webex Connect to your business, giving you enhanced control and visibility—without disrupting your existing services.
Previously, when Embedded Sign-Up onboarding was unavailable, Webex Connect created, owned, and managed your WABA to send messages on your behalf. With the Shared Access model, your business becomes the WABA owner and can grant Webex Connect the necessary permissions to manage your account.
Note:
WABAs onboarded via Embedded Signup are already using the Shared Access model and do not need to be migrated.
Key Benefits of Shared Access WABA
- Ownership: Your business will officially own the WABA. You’ll have direct access to WhatsApp Manager to view analytics, phone number and template quality, and other critical metrics.
- Add Numbers Easily: Add new phone numbers to your WABA ID using Webex Connect Embedded Signup flow.
- Receive Important Notifications: Get email alerts for template quality, WABA changes, phone number quality, and other important updates from Meta.
How to Approve the Migration
To expedite the migration, please approve the request in Meta Business Suite when prompted. You’ll receive an email from [email protected] with the subject "Take control of your WhatsApp Business Account now" once Meta initiates the migration. This email will be sent to your registered Meta user account.
You can either follow this link or the complete the below steps to approve migration request:
- Log into Meta Business Manager.
- Browse to Business Settings > Requests.
- Locate the request and approve to complete the migration.
If no action is taken, Meta will move your account to your business portfolio after 30 days. This process will not affect your current services.
